Battle of Langensalza (1761)

The Battle of Langensalza, fought on February 15, 1761, was a minor engagement of the Seven Years' War. It took place near Langensalza in Thuringia, now part of Germany. The battle pitted a smaller Prussian force under the command of General Georg Wilhelm von Platen against a larger French force led by the Prince de Soubise.

Despite being outnumbered, the Prussians, employing superior tactics and discipline, managed to achieve a victory against the French. This victory, while not strategically decisive in the overall context of the Seven Years' War, helped to maintain Prussian influence in the region and disrupted French logistical operations. The battle demonstrated the continued effectiveness of the Prussian army under Frederick the Great's military reforms, even in the face of numerical disadvantage. After the battle, the Prussians were able to harass French supply lines and disrupt their movements in the area.
