USS Fuller (APA-7)

The USS Fuller (APA-7) was a United States Navy attack transport. She was named for Marine Corps Captain Edward Canfield Fuller, who was posthumously awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions during the Boxer Rebellion.

Fuller (APA-7) was originally the merchant ship President Grant, built in 1907 by Harland and Wolff in Belfast, Northern Ireland for the Hamburg America Line. She was seized by the U.S. government during World War I and served as a troop transport under the name USS President Grant (ID-3014).

Following World War I, she was returned to civilian service. The Navy reacquired her in 1941 and converted her into an attack transport. Fuller participated in numerous amphibious landings during World War II in the Pacific Theater, including Guadalcanal, Tulagi, the Gilbert Islands, the Marshall Islands, and the Mariana Islands.

Fuller was heavily damaged by Japanese air attacks off Guadalcanal in November 1942. Despite the damage, she remained in service.

Fuller was decommissioned after the war and scrapped in 1948. She received seven battle stars for her World War II service.
