UFO (band)
UFO are an English rock band that formed in London in 1968. They are considered a significant influence on the new wave of British heavy metal movement. The band's classic lineup consisted of Phil Mogg (vocals), Michael Schenker (guitar), Pete Way (bass), Paul Raymond (keyboards/guitar), and Andy Parker (drums).
UFO's early work leaned towards space rock and blues-based hard rock. They achieved greater success and a more distinct sound with the arrival of guitarist Michael Schenker in 1973. Their albums Phenomenon (1974), Force It (1975), No Heavy Petting (1976), Lights Out (1977), Obsession (1978), and the live album Strangers in the Night (1979) are considered their most influential and commercially successful. These albums blended hard rock riffs with melodic songwriting and Schenker's distinctive guitar playing.
Throughout their career, UFO has experienced numerous lineup changes, with Phil Mogg remaining the only constant member. Michael Schenker has left and rejoined the band several times, pursuing his own solo career. Despite these changes, UFO has continued to tour and record, releasing albums sporadically over the decades. Their impact on hard rock and heavy metal remains significant, and they are remembered for their powerful live performances and influential guitar work. UFO officially retired from touring in 2022, following Phil Mogg's final performances with the band.
