BP Solar
BP Solar was a manufacturer and installer of photovoltaic (PV) solar energy products. A subsidiary of British Petroleum (BP), it operated as one of the world's largest solar companies for several decades. The company was involved in the production of solar panels, solar cells, and other components used in solar power systems for residential, commercial, and utility-scale applications.
BP Solar's activities encompassed the entire solar energy value chain, from research and development to manufacturing, marketing, and system integration. The company had manufacturing facilities in several countries and a global distribution network.
In 2011, BP announced its decision to exit the solar business and subsequently closed down its BP Solar operations. The company cited increased competition and lower margins in the solar market as reasons for its withdrawal. Prior to its closure, BP Solar had contributed significantly to the growth of the solar industry and played a role in the development of solar technology.
