Mentocrex
Mentocrex is a genus of birds in the family Sarothruridae, commonly known as flufftails. These small, reclusive birds are endemic to Madagascar. The genus currently contains two recognized species:
- Mentocrex kieneri (Madagascar Flufftail)
- Mentocrex beankaensis (Tanala Flufftail)
These species are typically found in dense, humid forests and wetlands. They are characterized by their small size, cryptic plumage, and retiring nature, making them difficult to observe in the wild. Both species are considered threatened due to habitat loss and degradation.
