Ninein
Ninein is a centrosomal protein that plays a critical role in microtubule organization and anchoring within the cell. It is a key component of the subdistal appendages of the mother centriole, structures which are essential for anchoring microtubules to the centrosome.
Ninein interacts with a number of other proteins, including γ-tubulin, a protein crucial for microtubule nucleation. This interaction facilitates the organization of the microtubule network and contributes to the establishment and maintenance of cell polarity. Through its interactions and function, Ninein is involved in various cellular processes, including cell division, cell migration, and differentiation.
Dysregulation or mutations in the NINEIN gene have been linked to certain diseases and developmental disorders. Further research continues to elucidate the precise mechanisms by which Ninein functions and its role in both normal cellular physiology and disease pathogenesis.
