Kwon Young-jin (politician)

Kwon Young-jin (권영진, born December 10, 1962) is a South Korean politician who served as the Mayor of Daegu from 2014 to 2022. He is a member of the People Power Party (formerly the Liberty Korea Party and Grand National Party).

Before becoming Mayor, Kwon served as a member of the National Assembly representing the Buk-gu district of Daegu. He was first elected to the National Assembly in 2008 and served two terms.

During his time as Mayor of Daegu, Kwon focused on economic development, attracting foreign investment, and improving the city's infrastructure. He also faced significant challenges during the COVID-19 pandemic, as Daegu was one of the early epicenters of the outbreak in South Korea. His administration's response to the pandemic was subject to both praise and criticism.

Kwon Young-jin graduated from Kyungpook National University with a degree in political science. He has held various positions within the Grand National Party (later the Liberty Korea Party and People Power Party) throughout his political career.
