Kokomo (band)
Kokomo was a British funk-fusion band formed in 1974 and disbanded in 1982. Known for their high-energy performances and impressive musicianship, they were a significant act in the British soul and funk scene of the 1970s.
The band's core lineup included vocalists Dyan Birch, Frank Collins, and Paddie McHugh, along with guitarist Neil Hubbard, keyboardist Tony O'Malley, bassist Alan Spenner, and drummer Terry Stannard. Other notable musicians who were associated with Kokomo included percussionist Jody Linscott.
Kokomo released three studio albums: Kokomo (1975), Rise and Shine (1976), and To Be Cool (1982). While they achieved critical acclaim and built a dedicated following through extensive touring, particularly in the UK, they never achieved major commercial success. Despite this, they were highly influential and respected by other musicians, and their music continues to be appreciated by fans of funk and soul. Several members went on to successful careers as session musicians and solo artists after the band dissolved.
