Ayesha (woreda)

Ayesha is a woreda (district) in the Somali Region of Ethiopia. It is located in the northeastern part of the region and is bordered by Djibouti to the north, Afar Region to the west, Shinile Zone to the south, and Somalia to the east. The administrative center of the woreda is Ayesha town.

Ayesha woreda is characterized by arid and semi-arid climate conditions, typical of the Horn of Africa. The inhabitants are primarily Somali pastoralists and agro-pastoralists, relying on livestock herding and small-scale agriculture for their livelihoods.

Historically, the area has been a zone of interaction between Ethiopia, Somalia, and Djibouti, influencing its cultural and economic landscape. The Djibouti-Ethiopia railway passes through the woreda, contributing to trade and transportation links between the two countries.

Challenges in Ayesha woreda include water scarcity, recurrent droughts, limited access to education and healthcare, and cross-border security concerns. Development efforts are focused on improving water resource management, promoting sustainable livestock practices, and enhancing access to basic services.
