Autograph (2010 film)
Autograph is a 2010 Indian Bengali-language drama film directed by Srijit Mukherji in his directorial debut. The film stars Prosenjit Chatterjee, Nandana Sen, and Indraneil Sengupta in the lead roles.
The film is a tribute to Satyajit Ray's 1966 film Nayak (The Hero), and explores themes of fame, regret, and the price of artistic success. The plot revolves around Subrata (Prosenjit Chatterjee), a successful and acclaimed film director who is approached by Shuvro (Indraneil Sengupta), an aspiring filmmaker, for permission to remake Nayak. During the discussions and pre-production process, Subrata forms a bond with Shuvro and his girlfriend, Sreenanda (Nandana Sen), a journalist.
As Subrata reflects on his life and career, he grapples with the compromises he has made and the relationships he has sacrificed for his art. The film interweaves the story of Autograph with scenes from Nayak, highlighting the parallels between the two narratives.
Autograph was critically acclaimed for its direction, screenplay, performances, and music. It is considered a significant film in the revival of Bengali cinema and won several awards, including the National Film Award for Best Feature Film in Bengali. Its soundtrack, composed by Debajyoti Mishra and Anupam Roy, was also a major success.
