Per Grieg

Per Grieg (1897-1962) was a Norwegian publisher and businessman. He served as the director of the Gyldendal Norsk Forlag publishing house from 1925 to 1941 and again from 1945 to 1962.

During World War II, Grieg actively participated in the Norwegian resistance movement against the German occupation. He was arrested by the Gestapo in 1941 and imprisoned for the duration of the war, enduring harsh conditions in various concentration camps, including Sachsenhausen.

After the war, he resumed his position at Gyldendal and played a significant role in rebuilding the publishing house and promoting Norwegian literature. He is remembered for his courage, resilience, and contributions to Norwegian cultural life. He was the brother of the renowned author Nordahl Grieg.
