1 Persei

1 Persei is a binary star system located approximately 1,800 light-years away in the constellation Perseus. It is visible to the naked eye under good viewing conditions.

The system consists of two hot, blue-white stars, designated component A and component B. Both stars are classified as B-type main-sequence stars. Component A is the brighter of the two and is designated as HD 12953. Component B is the fainter companion.

The two stars orbit each other with a relatively long orbital period, making precise determination of the orbit challenging. Details regarding the orbital parameters are still being refined through ongoing observations.

1 Persei is a member of the Perseus OB1 association, a group of young, hot stars believed to have formed together from the same molecular cloud. These stars share a common motion through space.

Astronomical observations of 1 Persei contribute to the understanding of stellar evolution, particularly for massive stars, and provide insights into the formation and dynamics of open clusters and OB associations.
