Assens railway station (Denmark)
Assens railway station was a railway station located in the town of Assens on the island of Funen, Denmark. It served as the terminus of the Assens Line (Assensbanen), a branch line from Tommerup station on the main line across Funen.
The station building was constructed in a distinctive style typical of branch line stations built during the period when the Assens Line was operational. It included facilities for passengers, freight handling, and railway administration.
The Assens Line and the station were closed to passenger traffic in 1966. Freight traffic continued until 1994. The railway tracks have since been removed, and the station building has been repurposed. Today, the former station building serves other functions, often including housing or commercial space.
The closure of the Assens Line reflected a broader trend in Denmark and elsewhere, with increasing reliance on road transport leading to the closure of many branch lines. The former route of the Assens Line is now a popular path for cycling and walking.
