Amazai

Amazai (also spelled Amazay) is a Pashtun tribe primarily found in the Buner District of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province in Pakistan. They are a significant subtribe of the larger Yousafzai Pashtun tribal confederation. The Amazai trace their lineage back to Yousaf, the ancestor of the Yousafzai. Historically, the Amazai have been known for their independent spirit and involvement in various conflicts within the region. They maintain a strong tribal structure and adhere to Pashtunwali, the traditional Pashtun code of conduct. Their economy is primarily based on agriculture and livestock farming.

The Amazai are further divided into various clans and sub-clans, each with its own internal dynamics and leadership. Social cohesion within the tribe is maintained through Jirgas (tribal councils) which resolve disputes and make decisions affecting the community. Like other Pashtun tribes, the Amazai have a rich cultural heritage expressed through music, dance, and traditional storytelling.
