Da Brat

Da Brat (born Shawntae Harris, April 14, 1974) is an American rapper and actress. She is widely recognized as one of the first female rappers to achieve platinum success, marking a significant milestone in the genre.

Da Brat rose to prominence in the early 1990s, signing with So So Def Recordings after winning a local rap contest. Her debut album, Funkdafied, released in 1994, was a commercial breakthrough, achieving platinum certification and establishing her as a major figure in hip-hop. The album's title track, "Funkdafied," became a signature song and a defining track of the era.

Known for her distinctive rapid-fire delivery and tomboy image, Da Brat challenged conventional notions of femininity within the male-dominated world of rap. Her lyrics often explored themes of street life, empowerment, and self-expression.
