Wilmington railway station (England)
Wilmington railway station is a disused railway station located in Wilmington, East Sussex, England. It served the village of Wilmington and the surrounding rural area.
The station was situated on the now-closed Polegate to Hailsham branch line. It opened on 14 May 1849, as part of the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway. The line was initially built as a single track, but was doubled in 1905.
Wilmington station consisted of two platforms and a station building on the down (westbound) platform. A goods yard was also located to the south of the station. The station building was a typical example of the architecture used by the London, Brighton and South Coast Railway.
Passenger services were withdrawn on 8 September 1968, and the line was closed completely in 1968. The station building still survives, although it is now in private ownership. Little remains of the platforms or the goods yard. The trackbed has largely been reclaimed by nature.
