Alta Lake (British Columbia)

Alta Lake is a lake located in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada. Situated south of Whistler Village, it is a popular recreational area for swimming, canoeing, kayaking, and paddleboarding in the summer months. In the winter, the lake freezes over and is used for ice skating.

The lake is fed by several creeks and drains into the River of Golden Dreams, a slow-moving waterway connecting Alta Lake to Green Lake further north. The lake is known for its relatively warm water temperature in the summer, making it a desirable swimming destination.

Several parks and beaches surround Alta Lake, including Rainbow Park, Lakeside Park, and Wayside Park. These parks offer amenities such as picnic areas, playgrounds, and washrooms. Historic Rainbow Lodge, once a popular tourist destination, was located on the shores of Alta Lake.
