Chideock

Chideock is a village and civil parish in the county of Dorset, in South West England. It is situated approximately 3 miles (4.8 km) west of Bridport, near the A35 road.

Geography and Environment: Chideock lies within the Dorset Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB). The village is nestled amongst rolling hills and farmland and is located close to the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The River Winniford flows through the parish.

History: Chideock has a long and rich history, dating back to at least the Domesday Book of 1086, where it is recorded as "Chidioc." The village was historically associated with the Arundell family, who owned Chideock Castle. The castle, now largely ruined, was a significant site of Catholic resistance during the Elizabethan era. Several members of the Arundell family were martyred for their faith, and Chideock became a place of Catholic pilgrimage.
