Mike Bishop (politician)

Mike Bishop (born March 18, 1967) is an American politician and attorney who served as a U.S. Representative for Michigan's 8th congressional district from 2015 to 2019. A Republican, he previously served as the Michigan Senate Majority Leader from 2003 to 2011, and as a member of the Michigan House of Representatives from 1999 to 2003.

Bishop was born in Almont, Michigan. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Michigan and a Juris Doctor from Detroit College of Law (now Michigan State University College of Law).

His political career began in the Michigan House of Representatives, where he served two terms. He then moved to the Michigan Senate, eventually becoming Senate Majority Leader. During his time in the Michigan legislature, Bishop focused on issues related to education, fiscal responsibility, and economic development.

In 2014, Bishop was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, representing Michigan's 8th congressional district. In Congress, he served on the House Judiciary Committee and the House Education and the Workforce Committee. His legislative priorities included tax reform, regulatory reform, and national security.

Bishop lost his bid for re-election in 2018 to Democrat Elissa Slotkin. After leaving Congress, he returned to the private sector.
