Missing (2009 TV series)
Missing is a British daytime police procedural drama series that aired on BBC One from 2009 to 2010. Created by Paul Marquess, the series focused on the work of the Missing Persons Unit (MPU) in Greater London. The MPU is dedicated to finding individuals who have disappeared, often under mysterious or distressing circumstances.
Each episode typically followed a different case, with the MPU investigating the disappearance and working to uncover the truth behind it. The team, led by DS Mary Jane "MJ" Croft (played by Pauline Quirke), used a variety of techniques, including interviewing witnesses, examining evidence, and employing psychological profiling to understand the missing person's state of mind and potential whereabouts. The cases often explored themes of family relationships, mental health issues, and the vulnerabilities of modern urban life.
The series also delved into the personal lives of the MPU team members, providing insight into their motivations and the emotional toll of their work. Other prominent cast members included Mark Wingett as DI John Hall, Pooja Shah as DC Ishaq, and Golda Rosheuvel as DC Andrea "Drew" Drew.
The series ran for two seasons. Despite focusing on the serious subject matter of missing persons, Missing aimed for a realistic portrayal of police work, balancing the procedural aspects with the human element of the stories. It was generally well-received for its strong performances and compelling storylines.
