Hebmüller

Hebmüller refers to a German coachbuilding company, Karosseriebau Hebmüller, which was best known for its two-seat convertible version of the Volkswagen Beetle, officially called the Volkswagen Type 14A.

Hebmüller was founded in 1889 in Wülfrath, Germany, and originally focused on building horse-drawn carriages. After World War II, the company secured a contract with Volkswagen to produce a convertible based on the Beetle chassis.

The Hebmüller cabriolet, produced from 1949 to 1953, is a distinctive and highly sought-after classic car today. It featured a unique two-seat configuration, a sleek, sporty design, and a folding soft top. The cars were typically painted in two-tone color schemes, adding to their visual appeal.

The Hebmüller factory suffered a significant fire in 1952, which impacted production and ultimately contributed to the company's financial difficulties. Despite its relatively short production run, the Hebmüller cabriolet is considered an iconic Volkswagen variant and a significant part of automotive history. Production numbers are estimated at around 696 vehicles. After ceasing production of the Type 14A, Hebmüller continued to operate as a coachbuilder until its eventual closure.
