Dorothy Brown (politician)

Dorothy Brown is an American politician who served as the Clerk of the Circuit Court of Cook County, Illinois, from 2000 to 2020. A Democrat, Brown was first elected in November 2000 and re-elected four times. As Clerk, she was responsible for maintaining court records, collecting fines and fees, and managing various administrative functions of the court system.

Brown's tenure as Clerk was marked by both accomplishments and controversies. She implemented several technological upgrades to modernize the court's record-keeping system. However, her office also faced scrutiny regarding its management and financial practices.

Prior to becoming Clerk, Brown worked as a certified public accountant and held various positions in the private sector. She also holds a Ph.D. in Public Administration.

In 2016, Brown faced federal charges related to an alleged loan program within her office. She was acquitted on all counts in 2019. She did not seek re-election in 2020 and was succeeded by Iris Martinez.
