George Hirst (footballer)
George Hirst (born 15 February 1999) is an English professional footballer who plays as a striker for Ipswich Town.
Hirst began his career in the youth academy of Sheffield Wednesday, where his father, David Hirst, was a club legend. He made his professional debut for Sheffield Wednesday in 2016. In 2018, he joined Belgian club Oud-Heverlee Leuven.
Hirst then moved to Leicester City in 2019, initially joining their under-23 squad. During his time with Leicester, he had loan spells at Rotherham United, Mansfield Town, and Portsmouth. He achieved success during his loan spell at Portsmouth in the 2021-22 season, becoming a key player and scoring a significant number of goals.
In 2022, Hirst joined Blackburn Rovers on loan. In January 2023, he joined Ipswich Town on loan, a move that was made permanent in the summer of 2023.
Hirst has also represented England at various youth levels, including the under-17, under-18, under-19, and under-20 levels. He was part of the England under-20 squad that won the 2017 Toulon Tournament. His playing style is characterised by his strong physical presence, aerial ability, and goal-scoring instincts.
