Carl Cort
Carl Cort (born November 1, 1977) is a retired professional footballer who played as a striker. He is best known for his time in the English Premier League with Wimbledon and Newcastle United.
Cort began his career at Wimbledon, progressing through their youth system. He made his professional debut in 1997 and quickly established himself as a promising young talent. He played for Wimbledon until 2000, scoring a number of goals and attracting attention from other clubs.
In 2000, Cort signed for Newcastle United for a substantial transfer fee. However, his time at Newcastle was hampered by injuries, preventing him from consistently performing at his best. Despite glimpses of his potential, he struggled to secure a regular first-team place.
After leaving Newcastle, Cort played for a variety of clubs, including Wolverhampton Wanderers, Norwich City (on loan), Leicester City (on loan), Real Murcia in Spain, Hull City, Brentford, and Tampa Bay Rowdies. He had varying degrees of success at these clubs, often struggling to recapture the form he showed early in his career at Wimbledon.
Cort is of Guyanese descent and represented Guyana at international level. His brother, Leon Cort, is also a former professional footballer.
