Frank Schaefer (football manager)
Frank Schaefer (born 26 October 1963) is a German football manager and former player.
Schaefer's managerial career has been primarily associated with 1. FC Köln. He had multiple stints with the club in various roles, including head coach, assistant coach, and head of youth development. He initially joined Köln as a youth coach in 1999.
Schaefer became the interim head coach of 1. FC Köln's first team on multiple occasions. Most notably, he took over in 2010 when Zvonimir Soldo was dismissed, and again in 2012 when Ståle Solbakken was fired. Following Solbakken's dismissal, he was appointed as the permanent head coach until the end of the 2011–12 season. However, he resigned before the end of that season after facing criticism and pressure.
After leaving Köln, Schaefer held managerial positions at other clubs, including Thai Premier League side Bangkok United. He has also worked with clubs in Germany's lower leagues.
Throughout his career, Schaefer has been recognized for his work with youth players and his commitment to developing talent.
