Allenia (plant)
Allennia is a genus of flowering plants belonging to the family Amaranthaceae. The genus contains a single accepted species, Allennia palmeri.
Allennia palmeri is a succulent plant endemic to Mexico. It is found specifically in the arid regions of the Baja California peninsula. The plant is characterized by its fleshy stems and leaves, adaptations that allow it to survive in dry environments.
The plant was first described and named by Paul Carpenter Standley, an American botanist who made significant contributions to the study of Central American flora. The genus name Allennia honors Dr. Joel Asaph Allen, an American zoologist and mammalogist.
Allennia palmeri is considered relatively rare, and its conservation status is of concern due to habitat loss and other environmental pressures in its native region. Further research may be necessary to fully understand its distribution, population size, and specific threats it faces.
