186th (Kent) Battalion, CEF
The 186th (Kent) Battalion, CEF was an infantry battalion of the Canadian Expeditionary Force (CEF) during the First World War. Authorized on 15 July 1916 and mobilized at Chatham, Ontario, the battalion recruited primarily in the counties of Kent and Essex. Lieutenant-Colonel E.G. Odette was appointed as its Commanding Officer.
The battalion embarked for Great Britain on 28 March 1917 aboard the SS Olympic. Upon arrival, it was absorbed into the 12th Reserve Battalion on 7 April 1917. This meant the unit was broken up and its personnel were used as reinforcements for other Canadian units already serving in France and Belgium. The 186th Battalion never served in a theatre of war as an independent unit.
The battalion was officially disbanded on 17 July 1917.
The perpetuation of the 186th (Kent) Battalion, CEF was assigned to the 1st Hussars.
