9th (Scottish) Division

The 9th (Scottish) Division was an infantry division of the British Army that fought in both World War I and World War II. It was originally raised in 1914 as part of Kitchener's New Army and saw extensive action on the Western Front during the First World War.

In World War I, the division was composed primarily of Scottish troops, hence the "Scottish" designation. It participated in major battles including the Battle of Loos, the Battle of the Somme, and the Battle of Passchendaele (Third Battle of Ypres). The division suffered heavy casualties throughout the war.

The 9th (Scottish) Division was reformed for service in World War II. It served in France in 1940 as part of the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) and was evacuated from Dunkirk. After re-equipping and training, the division participated in the North African Campaign, fighting in the Second Battle of El Alamein and subsequent advances. It then took part in the Allied invasion of Sicily in 1943. The division was disbanded in 1944.
