All (band)
All is an American punk rock band that formed in 1987 in Los Angeles, California. It was created by the members of the Descendents – guitarist Stephen Egerton, bassist Karl Alvarez, and drummer Bill Stevenson – after singer Milo Aukerman initially left the Descendents to pursue a career in biochemistry. Without Aukerman, the remaining members decided to continue making music under a new name.
The band’s name, "All," reflects the Descendents' philosophy of striving for "everything," often abbreviated as "ALL" in their album titles and lyrics. This encompasses a lifestyle dedicated to health, happiness, and continuous self-improvement.
All's initial lineup featured Dave Smalley (of Dag Nasty and DYS) as vocalist for their first album, Allroy Sez. Following Smalley's departure, Scott Reynolds joined the band as vocalist and remained until 1993, recording several albums including Allroy's Revenge, Allroy Saves, New Girl, Old Story, Perky Pat, and Breaking Things.
In 1993, Milo Aukerman rejoined the Descendents, leading All to take a temporary hiatus. However, they returned in 1995 with Chad Price as their vocalist, a position he has held since. With Price, All has released albums such as Pummel, Mass Nerder, and Problematic.
All is known for their melodic punk rock sound, characterized by intricate guitar work, driving rhythms, and often humorous and introspective lyrics. While often considered a continuation of the Descendents, All developed its own distinct identity and discography. The band’s members have also been involved in numerous other projects, contributing to the broader punk and hardcore music scenes. All continues to tour and record.
