Robert Key (politician)
Sir Robert Key (born 22 April 1945) is a British Conservative politician who served as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Salisbury from 1983 to 2010.
Early Life and Education:
Key was educated at Salisbury Cathedral School and Sherborne School before attending Pembroke College, Cambridge, where he read History.
Political Career:
He entered Parliament in 1983, winning the Salisbury seat from the Liberal incumbent, Michael Hamilton. Key served in various junior ministerial roles, including Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department of Transport (1992-1993) and Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State at the Department of National Heritage (1993-1997).
During his time in Parliament, Key was known for his interest in defence and heritage issues. He was a member of the Defence Select Committee.
Post-Parliamentary Career:
After standing down from Parliament in 2010, Key has been involved in various organizations and activities.
Honours:
He was knighted in 2002 for his political service.
