Alice (miniseries)

Alice is a two-part Canadian-American television miniseries that aired in 2009 on Showcase (Canada) and Syfy (United States). It is a modern reimagining of Lewis Carroll's classic novel, Alice's Adventures in Wonderland.

The miniseries stars Caterina Scorsone as Alice Hamilton, Andrew-Lee Potts as Hatter, Matt Frewer as the White Knight, and Kathy Bates as the Queen of Hearts. The plot follows Alice's journey into Wonderland, now a fantastical city ruled by the tyrannical Queen of Hearts. Alice searches for her kidnapped fiancé, Jack Chase, and uncovers secrets about her own past and connection to Wonderland.

The series features updated versions of familiar characters and settings from Carroll's books, adapting them to a more contemporary and visually striking world. Wonderland is depicted as a place where emotions are extracted and used as a form of currency and control.

Alice was directed by Nick Willing, who also served as a writer and executive producer. The miniseries received mixed reviews, with critics praising its visual style and performances, particularly Bates as the Queen of Hearts, while criticizing its pacing and deviation from the source material. Despite the mixed reception, it was a ratings success for Syfy and Showcase.
