Darras

A darras (plural darrases) is a type of defensive structure, specifically a small, covered passageway or sally port, often found in medieval fortifications such as castles or city walls. Darrases allowed defenders to sally forth and attack besiegers or retrieve supplies, while remaining protected from direct assault. They could also provide a covered means of communication between different parts of the fortifications.
