Tropical Storm Julia (2016)

Tropical Storm Julia was a short-lived tropical cyclone that formed unusually late in the 2016 Atlantic hurricane season. Julia, the tenth named storm of the season, developed from a non-tropical low-pressure system over the far western Atlantic Ocean near the coast of Florida on September 12, 2016.

Unusual for tropical cyclones in the Atlantic basin, Julia formed over land. The low-pressure system moved inland over Florida, transitioning into a subtropical storm. It then briefly strengthened into a tropical storm while centered over the Florida peninsula.

Julia was a weak tropical storm, with maximum sustained winds reaching only 40 mph (65 km/h). After moving back over the Atlantic waters, Julia quickly weakened and dissipated on September 13, 2016.

Due to its weak intensity and short lifespan, Tropical Storm Julia caused minimal impact. Minor flooding and gusty winds were reported in some areas of Florida. No deaths or significant damage were attributed to the storm.

The unusual formation of Julia over land and its rapid dissipation made it a noteworthy, albeit minor, weather event.
