Epopeus

Epopeus was, in Greek mythology, a king of Sicyon. He was the son of Aloeus and Enna, although some accounts claim Poseidon as his father.

Epopeus is primarily known for his conflict with Thebes. He abducted Antiope, the daughter of Nycteus, king of Thebes, leading to a war between Sicyon and Thebes. During this war, Nycteus died, charging his brother Lycus to avenge Antiope. Lycus eventually conquered Sicyon, killed Epopeus, and returned Antiope to Thebes.

Accounts regarding the cause of Epopeus' death vary. Some say he died in battle during the Theban invasion, while others state he was wounded by Lycus and later succumbed to his injuries. The stories surrounding Epopeus are fragmentary and sometimes contradictory, reflecting the nature of early Greek myths. He is a figure representing the dangers of hubris and the consequences of disrupting social order.
