Absentee (band)

Absentee was a British indie rock band formed in London in 2003. The band's sound was characterized by its angular guitars, driving rhythms, and the dual vocals of Dan Michaelson and Melinda Bronstein. Michaelson typically delivered spoken-word or deadpan vocals, while Bronstein provided more melodic singing, creating a distinctive and often tense dynamic.

Absentee released three studio albums: Viewfinder (2006), Second Rate Heart (2008), and Victory Garden (2012). They also released several EPs and singles. Their music often explored themes of disillusionment, urban life, and fractured relationships.

The band toured extensively throughout the UK and Europe, building a dedicated following with their energetic live performances. While they received critical acclaim for their unique sound and intelligent songwriting, they did not achieve mainstream commercial success.

Absentee disbanded in 2013. Following the band's breakup, Dan Michaelson continued to pursue a solo career, releasing several albums under his own name. Melinda Bronstein has remained active in the music scene, collaborating with other artists.
