47th Street station (IRT Third Avenue Line)

The 47th Street station was a local station on the IRT Third Avenue Line in Manhattan, New York City. It was located at the intersection of 47th Street and Third Avenue. The station was originally opened on December 30, 1878, by the New York Elevated Railroad. It had two tracks and two side platforms.

The station was part of the Third Avenue Line, which served a primarily elevated route through Manhattan. It provided local service, stopping at every station along the line. Its location at 47th Street offered access to the surrounding commercial and residential areas.

The 47th Street station was closed on May 12, 1955, when the portion of the Third Avenue Line south of 149th Street was shut down. The elevated structure was subsequently demolished, and no trace of the station remains today.
