1933 Pittsburgh Pirates (NFL) season

The 1933 Pittsburgh Pirates season was the inaugural season for the Pittsburgh Pirates franchise in the National Football League (NFL). Prior to 1933, Pittsburgh had fielded several professional football teams, but this marked the beginning of their continuous presence in the NFL.

The Pirates joined the NFL as an expansion team. During the season, they were coached by Forrest "Jap" Douds. The team finished with a record of 3 wins, 6 losses, and 2 ties, placing them fifth in the Eastern Division.

Notable players on the 1933 Pittsburgh Pirates included rookie quarterback/halfback Johnny "Blood" McNally, a future Hall of Famer. The team played their home games at Forbes Field. This season was a foundational year for the franchise, setting the stage for future seasons and eventual success. The team would later be renamed the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1940.
