Óscar Romero (footballer)

Óscar David Romero Villamayor (born July 4, 1992) is a Paraguayan professional footballer who plays as an attacking midfielder for Botafogo and the Paraguay national team.

Romero began his professional career with Cerro Porteño in Paraguay, where he quickly established himself as a key player. He is known for his creative playmaking, accurate passing, and ability to score goals from midfield.

After several successful seasons in Paraguay, Romero moved to Racing Club in Argentina in 2015. He continued to impress with his performances, attracting attention from European clubs.

In 2017, Romero joined Shanghai Shenhua in China. He later returned to South America, playing for Alavés (loan), San Lorenzo and Boca Juniors before joining Botafogo in 2024.

Romero is a regular member of the Paraguay national team, having represented his country in numerous international competitions, including the Copa América and FIFA World Cup qualifying matches. He is considered one of the most talented Paraguayan footballers of his generation.
