Zrenjanin

Zrenjanin is a city and the administrative center of the Central Banat District in Vojvodina, Serbia. It is located in the Banat region and lies on the banks of the Begej river.

Historically, the city has been known by several names, including Veliki Bečkerek (Hungarian: Nagybecskerek; German: Großbetschkerek), and Petrovgrad (during the Kingdom of Yugoslavia). The present name, Zrenjanin, was adopted in 1946 in honor of Žarko Zrenjanin, a communist partisan and national hero of Yugoslavia.

Zrenjanin is one of the largest cities in Vojvodina and an important industrial, commercial, and cultural center. Key industries include agriculture, manufacturing, and food processing. The city has a diverse economy and is home to a number of educational institutions, including a technical faculty of the University of Novi Sad.

The city has a rich cultural heritage, with various architectural styles reflecting its history under different empires. Significant landmarks include the City Hall, the Roman Catholic Cathedral, and the National Museum. The annual Beer Days festival is a major event that attracts visitors from across the region.
