Zhang Zhao (Five Dynasties)

Zhang Zhao (張昭) (died 952) was a military general who served under the Later Han during the Five Dynasties and Ten Kingdoms period in Chinese history. He is primarily known for his service under Emperor Gaozu of Later Han and his involvement in suppressing rebellions.

Zhang Zhao rose through the ranks due to his military prowess and loyalty. He played a significant role in quelling uprisings, particularly those that challenged the authority of the newly established Later Han dynasty. His most notable achievement was his contribution in suppressing the rebellion led by Zhao Siwan in 952. Zhao Siwan, a powerful military governor (Jiedushi), had declared independence from the Later Han, posing a serious threat to the stability of the regime. Zhang Zhao, along with other generals, was instrumental in defeating Zhao Siwan and restoring imperial control.

Details regarding Zhang Zhao's early life, specific military strategies, and individual battles are scarce due to limitations in historical records from the Five Dynasties period. However, his participation in the suppression of Zhao Siwan's rebellion is well-documented, highlighting his importance as a key military figure in the consolidation of the Later Han dynasty.
