Złotówka
The złotówka (plural: złotówki) is the basic monetary unit of Poland. It is subdivided into 100 groszy (singular: grosz). The official currency code is PLN. The name "złotówka" is a diminutive of "złoto," meaning "gold" in Polish, reflecting its historical connection to gold coins. The plural forms of the word can be confusing; while złotówki is the most common plural for amounts of 20 or more, złote is also frequently used, especially in more formal contexts and for certain round numbers. The złotówka as a currency has a long history in Poland, though the current version was introduced in 1995 after a redenomination (10,000 old złotych = 1 new złoty). It is issued by the National Bank of Poland (Narodowy Bank Polski).
