Zheltau (massif)
The Zheltau is a mountain massif located in the Karaganda Region of Kazakhstan. It is part of the Kazakh Uplands (Saryarka) and is characterized by relatively low elevations and rounded, weathered rock formations. The name "Zheltau" translates from Kazakh to "yellow mountain," likely referring to the coloration of the rocks, particularly from lichen and weathering.
The massif's geology is primarily composed of Precambrian and Paleozoic rocks, including granite, gneiss, and sedimentary deposits. The landscape is generally characterized by steppe and semi-desert vegetation. Resources found in the Zheltau area include various minerals, potentially contributing to local economic activity. Due to its relatively low elevation and arid climate, the Zheltau massif experiences significant temperature variations, with hot summers and cold winters. The area is sparsely populated, with settlements primarily engaged in animal husbandry.
