Black Cat (Harvey Comics)

Black Cat was a superheroine character published by Harvey Comics, created during the Golden Age of comics. Not to be confused with the Marvel Comics character of the same name, this Black Cat debuted in Pocket Comics #1 in 1941.

The Harvey Comics Black Cat was Linda Turner, a Hollywood stuntwoman and actress. Linda adopted the Black Cat identity to fight crime, often investigating on-set mysteries and uncovering villainous plots within the film industry. A skilled acrobat and hand-to-hand combatant, Linda utilized her athleticism and intelligence to overcome her adversaries.

Black Cat typically wore a blue and yellow costume, which consisted of a blue mask, cape, and boots, along with a yellow dress or jumpsuit. Her adventures were generally self-contained, and she lacked a recurring supporting cast beyond occasional police contacts.

Although she initially appeared in Pocket Comics, Black Cat eventually received her own self-titled series which ran for several issues during the 1940s. The series focused on her exploits within Hollywood and beyond, often featuring plots involving sabotage, espionage, and murder.

The Harvey Comics Black Cat has largely been forgotten in modern comics history, overshadowed by the more popular Marvel character using the same name. Her Golden Age stories are primarily of interest to historians and collectors interested in the early development of superhero characters. Her powers consisted solely of her agility, intelligence, and fighting skills; she had no supernatural abilities.
