It (1966 film)

It is a 1966 British horror film directed by Herbert J. Leder and starring Roddy McDowall. The film is based on a story of the same name written by Theodore Sturgeon.

The plot revolves around Arthur Pimm (McDowall), a disgruntled museum employee in London who becomes obsessed with a Golem, a creature from Jewish folklore, when it arrives at the museum. Believing himself to be divinely chosen, Pimm purchases the Golem from a retiring antique dealer, secretly bringing it to life using ancient Hebrew incantations. He then uses the Golem to exact revenge on those he feels have wronged him, including his employer and various perceived enemies.

As the film progresses, Pimm's control over the Golem weakens, and the creature becomes increasingly destructive and unpredictable. The film explores themes of isolation, power, and the dangers of unchecked ambition. It received mixed reviews upon release but has since gained a cult following, primarily due to McDowall's performance and the unique take on the Golem legend.
