Tim O'Brien (musician)
Tim O'Brien (born March 16, 1954) is an American country and bluegrass musician and songwriter. He is known for his virtuosity on a variety of instruments, including guitar, mandolin, fiddle, banjo, bouzouki, and others, as well as his distinctive vocals.
O'Brien's career spans several decades and includes membership in the influential bluegrass band Hot Rize. He also performs as a solo artist, leading his own band, and collaborating with numerous other musicians. His solo work often blends bluegrass with elements of country, folk, Celtic, and rock music.
He has released numerous solo albums, including "Hard Won," "The Crossing," "Red on Blonde" (featuring songs of Bob Dylan), and "Pompadour." He has won a Grammy Award for Best Bluegrass Album.
Beyond his own recordings, O'Brien is a sought-after session musician and producer. He has contributed to recordings by artists across a wide range of genres, including Steve Earle, Garth Brooks, and Mark Knopfler.
