William Thompson (bishop)

William Thompson (1913-1990) was an Irish Anglican bishop. He served as the Bishop of Meath and Kildare in the Church of Ireland from 1976 to 1985.

Thompson was educated at Trinity College, Dublin, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree and later a Bachelor of Divinity. He was ordained a deacon in 1936 and a priest in 1937. Prior to his episcopal appointment, he served in various parishes within the Church of Ireland, including positions in Dublin and Wicklow.

As Bishop of Meath and Kildare, Thompson was involved in the pastoral care of the dioceses and the administration of its parishes. He participated in the General Synod of the Church of Ireland and contributed to discussions on matters of doctrine and church governance. His episcopate coincided with a period of social and political change in Ireland, and he played a role in representing the Church of Ireland's perspective on these issues.
