William Baldwin (Maryland politician)
William Baldwin (1789 – December 9, 1844) was an American lawyer and politician from Maryland. He served as a United States Representative for Maryland's 5th congressional district from 1819 to 1821 and for Maryland's 6th congressional district from 1821 to 1823. He was a member of the Democratic-Republican Party.
Born in Harford County, Maryland, Baldwin graduated from the College of New Jersey (now Princeton University) in 1807. He studied law and was admitted to the bar, commencing practice in Belle Air, Maryland.
He served in the Maryland House of Delegates in 1816 and 1817. He was elected to the Sixteenth and Seventeenth Congresses, serving from March 4, 1819, to March 3, 1823.
After his congressional service, Baldwin resumed the practice of law. He was appointed as a judge of the Baltimore Criminal Court in 1836 and served until his death in Baltimore, Maryland, in 1844. He is interred in Green Mount Cemetery, Baltimore.
