Washington Village (Norwalk, Connecticut)
Washington Village is a public housing complex located in Norwalk, Connecticut, situated in the South Norwalk (SoNo) neighborhood. It is one of the oldest public housing projects in the United States, originally constructed in the 1940s. It is situated along the Norwalk River and has historically been a significant community within SoNo, though also one facing challenges related to poverty and infrastructure. In recent years, there have been significant redevelopment efforts underway to replace the existing buildings with modern, mixed-income housing. The redevelopment project aims to revitalize the area, improve living conditions for residents, and integrate the community more fully into the surrounding neighborhood. The project involves demolishing the old buildings and constructing new apartments and townhouses.
