John Borlase (1576–1648)
John Borlase (1576–1648) was an English politician and military figure who served during the English Civil War. He was a Member of Parliament for Marlow from 1624 to 1625, and again from 1628 to 1629.
Borlase was a prominent supporter of the Parliamentarian cause during the Civil War. He served as a commander in the Parliamentary army, playing a role in the defence of London. He was known for his staunch Puritan beliefs and dedication to the Parliamentary cause.
He married twice. First to Mary Bretton, with whom he had children, including Sir John Borlase, 1st Baronet of Bockmer. After her death, he married Anne, widow of Sir John Read.
His contributions to the Parliamentary efforts in the Civil War earned him recognition and respect amongst his contemporaries. He died in 1648.
