Matt Burke (rugby union, born 1973)

Matthew "Matt" Burke (born March 26, 1973, in Sydney, New South Wales) is an Australian former rugby union footballer. He primarily played as a fullback, though he also played on the wing. He is best known for his international career with the Australian national team, the Wallabies, and his club career with the New South Wales Waratahs.

Burke made his debut for the Wallabies in 1993 and went on to earn 81 caps for his country, captaining the team on several occasions. He was a key member of the Wallabies' squad that won the 1999 Rugby World Cup, kicking a significant number of goals during the tournament. Known for his accurate goal-kicking and solid defensive play, Burke was a consistent performer for Australia throughout the 1990s and early 2000s. He retired from international rugby after the 2003 Rugby World Cup.

At club level, Burke spent the majority of his career playing for the Waratahs in the Super Rugby competition. He was a popular figure among Waratahs supporters and a consistent performer for the team. He also played for the Newcastle Falcons in England later in his career.

Since retiring from playing, Burke has worked as a rugby commentator and analyst for various media outlets. He has also been involved in coaching and mentoring roles within the sport.
